Join us for 3 days to have a go at making your own clothing. You’ll learn about the processes to make your own clothes and how to break the rules for a sustainable future.
This camp is suitable for young people living in Barnsley aged 11 – 16 who are eligible for free school meals
From day one you’ll be learning hands on how clothes are designed. You’ll play with patterns and understand the role clothes play in our lives from functional to creative expression. By the end of the first day, you’ll have a go at designing your own garment with the first prototype ready to model.
Return rested and ready to make. Today we’ll have a go piecing our garments together on the sewing machines. You’ll learn how to tweak your design to work better for you and leave with a finished piece ready to embellish.
Now that you’re a design pro, we’ll add elements to your design that go beyond function and structure. You’ll learn how to screen print, design iron-on elements and how to make your garments digital.
You will get a delicious healthy lunch everyday. Also, you will learn how to cook a tasty meal once a week! As well as you will get a hour of physical activity daily for example, team games and outdoor activities.
Booking is completed on the Barnsley Council website. To attend this workshop, you must book all three dates. We’ve provided links to each of the three days here:
You’re in good hands. All our camp leaders are first aid trained and DBS checked. We have a thorough Safeguarding policy in place with processes to prevent and report any incidents.

Each day you’ll meet your camp leaders in the reception at DMC 01. You’ll get to explore the new MakerLab across the street. For our physical activity, we’ll walk to the HOPE in the Community Allotment where we’ll learn about growing our own food.
